Context: Lukas and Lisa are bored on a Sunday afternoon. They start playing the "What if?" game.
Lisa: Lass uns ein Spiel spielen.
Let's play a game.
Lisa: Was würdest du tun, wenn du im Lotto gewinnen würdest?
What would you do, if you won (would win) the lottery?
Lukas: Gute Frage. Wenn ich im Lotto gewinnen würde, würde ich eine Weltreise machen.
Good question. If I won the lottery, I would make (go on) a world trip.
Lukas: Ich würde mir auch ein schnelles Auto kaufen. Und du?
I would also buy myself a fast car. And you?
Lisa: Wenn ich reich wäre, würde ich nicht mehr arbeiten.
If I were rich, I would not work anymore.

Topic: Building Conditional Sentences
These sentences have two parts:
The Condition (> Wenn-Clause): The fantasy scenario.
The Consequence (Main Clause): What happens then.
1. The "Verb-Kiss" Rule (Most Common)
If you start with > Wenn, the verb goes to the end of the first clause (because > Wenn is a Kicker). The second clause starts IMMEDIATELY with the verb. The two verbs "kiss" at the comma.
Wenn ich reich wäre, würde ich reisen.
(If I rich were, would I travel.)
Wenn ich Zeit hätte, käme (würde kommen) ich.
2. The Inverted Rule
You can start with the Consequence. Then > wenn kicks the verb to the very end.
Ich würde reisen, wenn ich reich wäre.
(I would travel, if I rich were.)
Ich könnte fliegen, wenn ich ein Vogel wäre.
3. Which Verb Form to Use?
For Sein/Haben/Modals, use the real Konjunktiv form (> wäre, > hätte, > könnte, > müsste, > dürfte).
For all other verbs (Action), use > würde + Infinitive.
If the English idea is "If I had money...", the German construction is > Wenn ich Geld hätte...
If the English idea is "If I were you...", the German construction is > Wenn ich du wäre...
If the English idea is "If I could go...", the German construction is > Wenn ich gehen könnte...
If the English idea is "If I won...", the German construction is > Wenn ich gewinnen würde...
If the English idea is "If it rained...", the German construction is > Wenn es regnen würde...
4. Omitting "Wenn" (Advanced)
You can drop the word > Wenn. If you do, the verb must jump to Position 1.
Wenn ich reich wäre... - > Wäre ich reich, ...
Wenn ich Zeit hätte... - > Hätte ich Zeit, ...
This sounds very elegant: > Hätte ich Zeit, würde ich kommen.
