Als ich sechs Jahre alt war, habe ich in München gewohnt.
When I was six years old, I lived in Munich.
Lisa: Du warst ja süß! Hast du damals viel Sport gemacht?
You were cute! Did you do a lot of sports back then?

Both Als and Wenn are Subordinate Conjunctions (Kickers). They send the verb to the end. But the meaning is strictly different based on frequency and time.
1. WANN (Question) Only use this for Time Questions.
Direct: Wann kommst du?
Indirect: Ich weiß nicht, wann er kommt.
Note: Never use "Wann" to describe a past event like "When I was young..."
2. ALS (Historic / One-Time Past) Use this for a single event or a block of time in the past that is finished.
Key Concept: It happened once, or it refers to a specific state in the past.
Examples:
Als ich ein Kind war... (I was a child only once).
Als ich 10 Jahre alt war...
Als ich den Unfall hatte...
Als ich nach Berlin gezogen bin...
3. WENN (Repeated Past OR Present/Future)
A. In the Past (Repetition): Used if the event happened multiple times (Whenever).
Keyword: often combined with immer (always).
Example: Immer wenn ich Oma besucht habe, gab es Kuchen. (Whenever I visited grandma...).
B. In Present/Future (Condition): Used for "If" or "When".
Example: Wenn ich Zeit habe, komme ich. (Future).
Example: Wenn es regnet, bleibe ich zu Hause. (Condition).
