This is the biggest difference between A2 and B1 sentence structure.
1. The "Kicker" vs. The "Inverter"
A2 Level (Weil): Weil kicks the verb to the end.
Ich esse, weil ich Hunger habe.
B1 Level (Deshalb/Trotzdem): These words count as Position 1.
Because the Verb MUST be in Position 2, the Subject moves to Position 3.
Ich habe Hunger. Deshalb (1) esse (2) ich (3).
2. Deshalb (Therefore / That's why) Expresses a consequence (Cause - Effect).
Situation: The internet is broken. (Cause)
Consequence: I cannot work. (Effect)
Structure: Das Internet ist kaputt. Deshalb kann ich nicht arbeiten.
Wrong: Deshalb ich kann nicht... (Subject cannot be 2nd here).
3. Trotzdem (Nevertheless / Even so) Expresses a contradiction (Obstacle - Action anyway).
Situation: I am sick. (Obstacle)
Action: I go to work. (Unexpected action)
Structure: Ich bin krank. Trotzdem gehe ich zur Arbeit.
4. Visualizing the Order Think of Deshalb and Trotzdem as "Verb Magnets." They pull the verb towards them immediately.
