Part 1: Story & Dialogue
Context: Lukas wakes up feeling terrible. He calls his work to say he can't come, and then visits a doctor (eine Ärztin).
Lukas (Erzähler): Heute geht es mir gar nicht gut.
Today I am not doing well at all.
Ich wache auf und mein Kopf tut weh.
I wake up and my head hurts.
Ich glaube, ich habe Fieber.
I believe I have a fever.
Ich will nicht zur Arbeit gehen, denn ich bin krank.
I do not want to go to work, because I am sick.
Also gehe ich zur Arztpraxis.
So I go to the doctor's practice.
Ich sitze im Wartezimmer und warte zehn Minuten.
I sit in the waiting room and wait ten minutes.

Part 3: Grammar Focus
Topic: Modal Verbs II (wollen & sollen)
1. Wollen (To Want)
Expresses a strong desire or intention.
Conjugation (Vowel change i - i):
Ich will
Du willst
Er/Sie/Es will
Wir wollen / Ihr wollt / Sie wollen.
Example:
Ich will gesund werden. (I want to get healthy).
Note: Avoid saying "Ich will" to a waiter (it sounds rude like a demand). Use "Ich möchte" for ordering. Use "Ich will" for life goals or strong plans.
2. Sollen (Should / To be supposed to)
Used for giving advice, following orders, or repeating what a doctor said.
Conjugation (Regular Vowel):
Ich soll
Du sollst
Er/Sie/Es soll
Wir sollen / Ihr sollt / Sie sollen.
Example:
Die Ärztin sagt, ich soll Tee trinken. (The doctor says I should drink tea).
3. Dürfen (To be allowed to)
Used for permission.
Sie dürfen nicht arbeiten.
(You are not allowed to work).
Note: "Nicht dürfen" means must not (prohibited). It does not mean "don't have to".
